New Release: "Fire Loved" by Me!

The day is here! My 35th birthday AND the release of my fifth novel, Fire Loved!

Here's what the book is about:

Simon Temple knew when he met Laura Marshall in the third grade that he would love her forever—though it wasn’t until middle school that she finally admitted she felt the same way about him. College and career plans parted them for nearly a decade, but when Simon returned to Gracechurch to join the fire department there, it was not long before he and Laura were reunited.

For both, it was as though they’d never been apart, and an engagement soon followed. Then Laura shocked the entire town when she suddenly called off the wedding two weeks before they were set to walk down the aisle. No amount of pleading on his part got an answer Simon could live with, and so he was left to pine away for a woman whom he had loved for a lifetime, but who apparently no longer wanted him.

Out of the blue, Laura is drawn into a police case being investigated by Simon’s detective brother, and his protective instincts come roaring to the surface. Will the connection between an abandoned infant and a series of threatening phone calls be discovered before the truth finally comes out, or will Laura take her secrets to her grave?

And here's an excerpt!

“Hey, you all right?” asked the man who suddenly appeared at her window.

Laura jumped, startled. She looked at him, turning her head slowly, and said, “I think so. I’m sorry about the accident. I just couldn’t stop.”

“That’s okay. I’m gonna call for help,” the man said, then walked away before she had the chance to tell him that she had a phone of her own. Bracing her hand on the wheel, she leaned forward and reached into her pocket to draw the phone out.

The panicked honking of a horn sounded then, and Laura turned to look behind her. Her eyes went round with alarm and fear locked her throat tight when she saw a pickup truck skidding toward her. It slammed with incredible force into the trunk of her car a heartbeat later.

She was vaguely aware of the snapping of her left wrist, the breaking of her nose as her face made painful contact with the steering wheel. A strangled cry erupted from her as she registered pain in her side and on her legs—the forward motion caused by the crash had pushed her vehicle even further under the semi trailer’s step bar, and she could now feel a heavy weight on her shins.

As the seconds ticked by, pain registered from multiple points on her body. Laura found breathing suddenly difficult. She felt blood pouring from her nose, could taste it in her mouth. Terror seized her heart when it occurred to her that she might be dying, and in that moment, she could only process one thought:

Simon. She wanted Simon.

And so she began to scream his name.
