Got talked into doing Camp NaNo (a summer version of National Novel Writing Month, which takes place in November) by a friend of mine. Was not sure at all what I would do, since I only decided to do it like, a day or so before it started (which was yesterday). So at first I figured I would work on the expansion of "The Beauty in the Black Room", which will of course receive a new title before I re-publish.
But while I was at work, I got over 400 words written by hand in the notebook I carry around just for that purpose. Of course, it was for a completely unrelated story. And while I sat at Burger King waiting for a friend to get off work because I was her ride home, I probably wrote about a thousand more words. Even though it was the "wrong" story to be working on, it felt so good to be writing again. I haven't done too much of that for my pro work lately and I'm happy to be getting my toes back in the water, so to speak.
So instead of my expansion of TBitBR, I've decided that my Camp NaNo project is going to be finishing up the anthology that this other short story is going into. It's a project I've had in mind for quite some time now and won't be released until December (on 12/13/14!!), but I have to ride the train the Muse takes me on! Certainly if I get some inspiration for the expansion I'll work on that too, but my project is decided: Holiday Heat.
