Caitlin Hensley and the Inhuman Chronicles

I am proud to be hosting here at the Diary Ms. Caitlin Hensley as part of her blog tour for the the first book in her series The Inhuman Chronicles, Paranormal Legacy

Paranormal Legacy is a young adult paranormal fantasy novel. Here is a synopsis:
After moving to a rural Pennsylvania town, cynical teen Haily Long soon discovers that the next-door neighbors are paranormal creatures of darkness. Despite this little quirk, the Knight family seems friendly enough, especially handsome Nathan. Nathan is well-mannered and polite, your typical boy next door . . . except for the fact that he turns into something else once a month. In a matter of days, Haily is drawn deep into a shadowed world of danger and deceit, and learns startling truths about her own past. When sinister strangers come sniffing around town for Nathan, and Haily gets pulled into the resulting chaos, she must discover how to unlock her true heritage if she wants to survive.
And here's an excerpt!
There’s a noise behind me, a floorboard groaning under a cautious foot. I start to turn, but a sweaty hand clamps over my mouth, forcing my lips shut.
My attacker shoves me down onto the bed, and I bounce twice on the mattress, smacking my head against the headboard.
I squint up at the figure looming over me, standing beside my bed. It takes a moment for the blur that’s his face to snap into focus, then I recognize him. It’s the guy from the coffee shop.
“What the . . . what are you doing in my room?”
My guest answered some questions about herself and her writing process. Here is what she had to say...

Are the characters in your book based on people you know?
Actually, no. Haily and all the others just popped into my head one day, and slowly evolved into characters that just seemed so real to me. I can’t seem to stop writing about them.
What books have influenced your writing?
I’ve read lots of books on writing that have really helped me. The first one I ever read was called How Not to Write a Novel, and it was both funny and informative. Since that was the first book on writing that I ever looked at, it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Also, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare inspired me to strive to become a better writer.
Do you have a critique group/beta readers, or do you self-edit?
I used to have a critique group, but that kind of fell apart. Now I have two beta readers, though I still do an insane amount of self-editing.
Would you be willing to have one of your books made into a movie? Which one?
Hm, that’s a tough one. Probably one of the books I’m working on now, which is called Dust to Dust. It’s about a teenage drug dealer living on a futuristic planet plagued by hungry vampires. There’s lots of action in it, so it would probably work out as a movie.
If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
If I couldn’t be an author, I’d probably like to do something with animals. Or maybe become a psychologist.
Will you have a new book coming out soon?
Untold Promise, book two in The Inhuman Chronicles, will be released in a few months. So keep an eye out for that. :)
Do you prefer chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate! Definitely chocolate.
Pepsi or Coke?
I’d say Coke.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Definitely a dog person. I have the sweetest little Chihuahua named Blair. :) ((Something Caitlin and I have in common! I have two Chihuahuas named Mojo and Daisy!))
If you gave your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?
Probably something sarcastic. It seems like nearly every character in Paranormal Legacy is at least mildly sarcastic. Which is interesting, because I almost never use sarcasm.

About the author:
Caitlin Hensley has been telling stories since she learned to hold a pen, and is pretty much obsessed with writing. She’s the author of The Inhuman Chronicles, as well as the novelette Together Alone. When not typing frantically on her laptop, she’s usually dancing, catching up on reruns of her favorite TV shows, or getting lost in a great book. She lives in rural Oklahoma with her family and a slightly nutty Chihuahua.
